Who Was
Lucifer?
One of the greatest criticisms of Albert Pike was that he believed that Lucifer was god. This subject is covered somewhat under
"Albert Pike." Let me just add a few comments here to clear up the matter. First of all, no one can read Pike's book "Morals and Dogma" all the way through and believe that he said such a thing. If, however, you pull a few words out of context, you can make Pike say things about Lucifer that are totally false.Pike made the statement that Lucifer was the "morning star." This was a reference to Isaiah chapter 14. As you will see in the documentation that I will provide, that Pike was misquoted. Now, having said that I will also, in all fairness, tell you that I think Pike probably should have been silent on the subject. He should have known that the vast majority of his readers would associate Lucifer with Satan. Both names were interchangeable back then as they are today. While Pike did not intend to bring all this confusion into his writing, it certainly turned many people away from Masonry.
What did Pike actually believe about the "Morning Star?"
Another web site has done an exceptional job on this subject, so I will direct you there. Please consider that the author of the article writes the last paragraph with tongue in cheek. No one is suggesting that we associate Jesus with Satan. He is doing a play on words.
